"I think, overall, we created Art Club because we saw that there wasn't a space for visual artists to be represented at this school. I decided, you know, it's my last year, and I'm gonna leave a staple, I'm gonna leave something that I can say I created with the love for art that I have, because that's something I want to go into in college. So, Renzo brought it up, and Max is also a crafts person, and we were like, 'Let's do this. Let's start a club to show people that visual arts is so much more than what you think it is.' I painted the mural in the Zen Den and that was something I was very proud of, and I think that, as a collective, it shouldn't just be one person who paints something, since it's a community, and I think everyone in a community should have a say in what is put up on the walls. And I want that to continue, like, even if you're not performing doesn't mean you don't count as an artist." - Ada Fernandez, Co-Founder

AUDITION.png

"Audition Club is mostly targeted towards underclassmen. Because, I know personally, as an underclassman I was really nervous to audition because of the people that are gonna be there. So Audition Club gives people the chance to perform something in front of people before actually auditioning. And, you know, Rep has a lot of audition opportunities, with the musical, the play, and all the outside stuff that they always recommend to us, like Keen Teens and Statement Arts. So it gives them a chance to, you know, show their audition, how to make it better, and also have a chance to do it in front of people before the real thing." - Dasha Osipova, Co-President

"In Photography Club, we have a couple missions. We want to capture student life, so the yearbook, all the events, all the things the students are interested in. And then we want to provide a service so that all students can get their headshots taken, so, that's one of our goals. And, in addition to that, we also want all of our students to have a portfolio, like if they need to apply for stuff. And yeah, so those are some of the missions of Photography Club, and that's what we're doing. I love Photography Club because, I don't know, it's something that's new, and I love new things. I love new experiences, and taking pictures is really fun! - Ebony Spicer, Co-President

Book Club Flyer.jpg

"We started Book Club because we thought it would be a good thing, just to like, be reading books and everything, and being able to communicate our feelings and how we interpret the books. And we kind of have been finding that really interesting, and we've also built a nice little community within it and everything, which is really nice. And I find that it brings a lot more opportunities to people. Ms. Leddy, our supervisor, she also said that at universities, professors are having a hard time teaching since a lot of people can't get through a book. So I also find this, hopefully, really helpful, to show that we can read books, we can understand them and we can analyze them, and we can read just for self pleasure, and it doesn't have to be for an assignment or anything like that, which is mainly what reading books has gotten down to these days." - Abira Sanchez-Guss, President

Baking Club Flyer.jpg

I started Baking Club last year with a couple of the freshman students because they had an interest in it. One of the favorite things that we baked last year was a cookie croissant, which was a TikTok viral thing, and it was, like, a croissant with chocolate chip cookie, and it was really easy because we got frozen chocolate chip cookie dough and got little croissants and stuffed them and baked them in our oven. So, we can't do too much of an elaborate thing, everything has to be simple, so we do something that's, like, a frozen dough and we bake it, or someone pre-makes a batter and we'll bake it, or we'll do a lot of decorating. The mission is just to have fun. Everyone who approached me about Baking Club, they love baking on their own, so they just wanted to do it with a community. We've also talked about baking for the school, of baking for different afterschool events. We meet in the Chem Lab." - Minyoung Leddy, Facilitator

debate team flyer.jpg

“The debate team is in our second year at Rep. We participate with the New York City Urban Debate League so students who participate have the chance to debate against students from all over the city once a month. We spend our time in the club meetings developing our research to support a pro and a con for each team, and on the day of, you compete against another pair from a different school. It’s a great extracurricular, and students get a chance to win awards at every single tournament, both as a team and as an individual speaker. You're also not committed for the entire school year, students can register on a basis that works for them. You definitely get some one-on-one time with a teacher, you get additional practice with analytical and research writing, you get to meet students from all over New York, and usually our topics are pretty interesting! Debate team also looks great on a college resume!”

“I love Hip Hop Team. It started when I was in my freshman year, and I was a member for freshman year, sophomore year, and junior year. This year I became a coach, alongside Abby and Kady, and basically it's just a bunch of people who love to dance. You have to audition to get in. We love dancing, we love expressing ourselves through art. It's another dance form that isn't really offered at Rep, so it's a club where you get to express that art form, and where we just be ourselves. It's super fun, and it's a great way to bond through art." - Aniyah Edmond, Coach

“A Capella Club is a mix of A Capella and Glee singing with track. A Capella club was started because we wanted to bring a community together of people who love to sing and enjoy music, enjoy making sound, and we just wanted something fun to do, especially Mr. Fram. Mr. Fram has been wanting to bring back A Capella club for a really long time, and because he used to be a music teacher before, he's like, completely qualified for it, so myself, Aniyah, and Jolene, we all got together with him to make this happen, and just to make beautiful arrangements, beautiful sound, bring a community together of people that love music." - Stephanie Espinal, Co-President

"Something that I really love about Film Club is that it feels like a community where we're all friends, and we just talk about films, and every week we have a different topic that we talk about. Throughout Film Club, we do work on small projects, or if they need us to do a documentary based on a show that's going on we also do that. We all have different parts of us that we kind of have to put on the back burner because there isn't a place to express it, and I feel like, in Film Club, we have that opportunity to really look at the other parts of you that aren't shown at this school. I love going every Wednesday, it's so fun to talk to everyone, and it honestly feels like a mini friend group. I love it so much." - Danny Madera, Co-President

Newspaper Club Flyer.png

"The Newspaper Club is the managing club of RepCoNews. Anyone is free to join, and we have various subgroups within the club, such as people in charge of interviewing and people in charge of researching, and everyone's free to pitch ideas for articles. We'll always be very willing to work with your schedule, like, if you're too busy to write an article or meet a deadline, we'll always have other people that are able to take on that role. Overall, the goal for Newspaper Club is to inform, to educate, and to bring the various students at Rep closer together through knowledge. Being part of Newspaper Club is great to put on college applications, or as an activity if you're interested in journalism. We meet on A2 days at lunch." - Catalina Yap, President
