Halloween is such a fun holiday, where everyone gets to show their ideas and the creative side of themselves by putting effort into the costumes being worn. Everyone has different experiences choosing, picking, and building their costumes, which is what makes it fun and enjoyable. At Rep, you get to walk around the building and see everyone's amazing costumes left and right. It brings out the exciting and happy community that we are! And here are a few people who've shared their experiences with their own costumes.
DELILAH as PENNYWISE

Why did you choose this character?
“'Cause he’s creepy and I had a way to make him cute.”
What was your process of making/choosing your costume?
“I kept having to buy on Shein, it was like, really hard. But I ended up pulling it off.”
SIA as CUPID

Why did you choose this character?
“Honestly, all my creative options, like, I couldn’t find them on Amazon, so I had to stick with the Amazon corset, stick with Cupid, this was my last minute costume, to be honest.”
What was your process of making/choosing your costume?
“It came to, like, it was October 20th and I thought, I had to order something now or nothing’s gonna come. So, I couldn’t risk buying a costume that was intricate and had small parts, so I had to just buy this one, to be honest. And this was the only one that came on time anyways. But, I like the costume too, it’s cute.”
DAMARI as a MEN IN BLACK character

Why did you choose this character?
“I’m just doing a Men in Black character, and I’m currently matching with Maria, the senior.”
What was your process of making/choosing your costume?
“I just chose it because it was very accessible for me to do, and also because I wanted to match with one of my friends. I just took this whole suit from the costume closet, but I’m gonna put it back by the end of the day!”
ARIA as AN INFLATABLE WITCH

Why did you choose this character?
“Okay, I really, really love inflatables, like last year I was an inflatable unicorn, and it just, it got me a lot of attention from little kids, and I thought that was so cute. And now, this year, I was trying to be something bigger than that, ‘cause I think big inflatables are really funny, and it makes a lot of people turn their heads at you, and that’s what I really like about Halloween. Oh, and I’m a witch that I guess is holding a guy, like, a nerd, because I have glasses on. I love my costume because it sticks out, I mean, everyone’s costume is different, but it sticks out just because of how, like, bright and hilarious it is. It’s really funny!”
CORY AND ASILAH as PIRATES

Why did you choose this character?
“My idea was, I was matching with my girlfriend, actually, who is in Talent Unlimited, another school, and, you know, she was a normal pirate and I wanted to be a zombie pirate.” - Cory
What was the process of making/choosing your costume?
“My idea was that, I was basically just trying to get a whole piece costume, but it ended up not only costing sixty bucks, but after a few weeks I realized that it also didn’t fit me. So, I just ended up buying all the pieces individually, doing what I had to do, and you know, homemade costumes are the best.” - Cory
“To be honest, it took me, like, three thousand costumes to just pick this one, and this was my last minute option because I was gonna be a clown, and I realized that my costume was not getting here until, like, two weeks after Halloween, so, this is very much a last option. But it’s cool, ‘cause, you know what, I still look cool.” - Asilah
WREN as THE MAYOR OF HALLOWEENTOWN

Why did you choose this character?
“I was thinking about this costume for a while, and originally it wasn’t gonna be my costume, but, like, last year I was Mr. Bobinsky from Coraline, and I wanted to do something in a similar realm. So I ended up eventually thinking of this costume, because I like not doing the main characters, really, but I like doing the side characters, but still recognizable.”
What was your process of making/choosing your costume?
“I had the black corset from last year’s costume, so I knew I already had that, and I just kind of went with things that were similar to his clothes, so I wore a black skirt instead of dress pants, or something, and my white button-up. And I knew I wanted to get this ‘Happy Birthday’ pin and paint over it, so that way I could write ‘Mayor’ on it so it looks like his. And I figured I would do half-and-half for the makeup, ‘cause he has, like, the two faces.”
BRIAR as STARFIRE

Why did you choose this character?
“‘Cause, uh, the senior Asher kind of forced me against my will. He’s Nightwing.”
What was your process of making/choosing your costume?
“It was actually pretty hard. We went through, like, a thousand, because I couldn’t find this exact dress, and then I found it, and I was really happy. It was like, five dollars.”
These are some of the people from Rep that we got to hear from. Hearing out their process is what makes this exciting, knowing how everyone came up with their costumes in different ways. Some by ordering things online and having issues, going to a last minute option, or making it themselves! Or even getting an inflatable costume because it gets attention from little kids. Or improvising by using things from last year. Even using the costume closet at Rep! It's a closet used for performances, but can also be used for anything like a Halloween costume (just remember to always put the stuff back!)
We love to see everyone's costumes at Rep, and we can't wait to see all the cool ideas next year!
